How long can a bank keep a delinquency on a credit report?

Back in 1997, I ran into some financial trouble and took out a loan for the balance on a mobile home I once owned. I defaulted on the loan that year, but it is still on my credit report. I wrote letters to the bank and to the credit reporting agencies, and this is still on my credit report. This is the only bad credit/delinquency I’ve ever had. I would appreciate any suggestions.

What is the best credit card for an 18 trying to build credit?

I’m soon to be 18 and am looking to get a credit card to help build credit. My dad said the best thing to do is to just use it to buy gas, but I’m not really all that up to date on how credit cards work and which ones are the best. Does anyone have any wise credit card wisdom to pass on to me?

I checked my wife’s credit report and she has 3 accounts with late payments from several years ago prior to us being married. One was past due 60 days, one was past due 30 days a few times, and one was past due 120 days. How long will her credit rating be impacted by these accounts? Is it 7 years from the time the account is closed?

When I turned 18 I knew I needed credit cards to grow credit. When I reached the 0 limit on my first card and the 00 limit on my new card when I found that this was not good for my credit. I hear that as long as you don’t spend more than half of the available balance your credit will be fine. Is this true?
