Depends on the dollar amounts of the debts you owe.
If it is relatively small, then you want to work with the collection agencies on a case-by-case basis.
All communication to the collection agencies should be in writing. DO NOT handle this matter via the telephone.
It wouldn’t hurt to contact the local Consumer Credit Counseling Center to get a better assessment to how to approach your delinquent debts as well.
Just call the credit report company first. It’s a lot easier, cheaper and you won’t risk getting rip off. If you need to contact a collection agency later on please do your homework and make sure it’s a reputable company. Also get references.
Your best bet is to contact the creditor directly. If you go through a credit counseler or consolidator, your credit report will be trashed. You would be better off filing bankruptcy. However, first, contact the people you owe money to and work out payment arrangements. In a few months, your score can be going back up.
When you say "hits" What areyou referring to? A hit in your CR in general means that cedit companies e.g loan officers, credit card companies car loan companies have looked into your credit report. I have a feeling that you are referring the bad things on your creduit report. I would suggest callingyour creditors and seeing if they have accesed any of your records and then proceeding from there. Also might want to see which credit bureaus the report was pulled from that might help as well
